Bridging The Workforce Gap for Palestinians in Jerusalem

A new program, hosted by Station J, in Jerusalem, is working hard to help bridge the gap Palestinians face after graduation when trying to enter the workforce. 

Very often, college graduates finish their educational goals with the hopes of finding employment and starting their professional careers, but many are struggling to do so and don’t feel equipped enough to start. After much research and analysis of the new college graduates trying to enter the workforce and meeting with multiple human resource representatives working within businesses in the Jerusalem area, it was overly apparent that many of these recent graduates lacked skills that could be preventing them from getting their foot in the door. Such skills include how to build a proper resume and CV, how to communicate during the interview process, basic technology skills, and other valuable skills which would allow for equal and fair opportunities when trying to join the economical environment in Jerusalem. The need for these skills was proven to be extremely high especially when this group of applicants would find themselves confused by their lack of knowledge regarding how to fully shine for opportunities presented, not knowing how to apply for positions, or the processes to expect when applying. They found themselves ill prepared and struggling during interviews, and the sheer rejection of positions which they may be highly qualified for but may not be considered due to their communication skills to be jarring and confusing after their college education. Station J, in Jerusalem is excited to announce a new program, Jerusalem Innovates, which aims to help target these needs and skills that recent graduates are struggling with to help promote a more successful transition into their future careers.

 Station J, in Jerusalem, is working to contribute to the growing economical ecosystem which aims to provide the young Palestinian workforce access to diverse opportunities and experiences. The organization focuses on making economic, social, and sustainable impact through Palestinian innovation fueled by expertise, entrepreneurial talent, and new technology from across the globe. They aid in guiding innovators, entrepreneurs, and the future workforce of Jerusalem from the ideation stages, connecting them to markets, people, and investment opportunities. They’re also extensively working to plug knowledge, teach 21st century skills, gain access to investment, and fill market niches to maximize the potential of innovators through a new program called Jerusalem Innovates.

Jerusalem Innovates, funded by Enable, will be hosted by Station J, providing extensive training and opportunities for the Palestinian population in Jerusalem. At least 230 young adults between the ages of 18-29 will have the opportunity to increase their skill sets regarding the qualifications, pre-conditions, and requisites that are in demand throughout Jerusalem to make them competitive, confident, and desirable workforce candidates. The training program will focus on 5 main categories: 21st Century Skills, Business Skills, Coding/ Digitization, Business Case Analysis, and Mentorships. Each category is then composed of subcategories all in which will help with developing well-seasoned Palestinian job applicants in Jerusalem. 

The Jerusalem Innovates program will take place in multiple locations all throughout Jerusalem and its suburbs with each location focusing on a specific development opportunity making the program easily accessible to Palestinians all over Jerusalem. 

Although there is a struggle for these young adults due to lack of skills and preparation, Jerusalem has the people, the ideas, and the access to resources to create an innovative workforce. All it needs is a push in the right direction to know what resources and opportunities they have available and how to utilize them. A program like Jerusalem Innovates is just what Jerusalem needs to give its Palestinian population the head start it deserves.

سدّ فجوة القوى العاملة للفلسطينيين في القدس

يسعى البرنامج الجديد الذي تستضيفه المحطة القدس في مدينة القدس إلى المساعدة في سد الفجوة التي يواجهها الفلسطينيون بعد التخرج في محاولاتهم للانضمام إلى سوق العمل.

عادةً ما يسعى خريجوا الجامعات لاستكمال متطلبات تخرجهم الأكاديمية بأفضل ما يمكن على أمل إيجاد فرصة عمل وبدء الحياة المهنية بسلاسة، ولكن يستضدم الكثير منهم بمتطلبات سوق العمل، فيشعرون بأنهم غير جاهزين ويجدون صعوبة بالغة أثناء عملية التوظيف، وتكثر التساؤلاتهم حول أسباب الرفض المتكرر لهم في وظائف والمناصب هم مؤهلين بالكامل لها على الصعيد الأكاديمي، مما يخلق الكثير من التخبطات وفقدان الأمل أو العزوف عن العمل بكفاؤاتهم العلمية.

ولكن، وبعد الكثير من البحث والتحليل، ومحاورة عدد من خريجي الجامعات الجدد والإجتماع  ببعض ممثلي الموارد البشرية العاملين في القطاع التجاري في مدينة القدس. تبين أن أغلب  الخريجين الجدد يفتقرون للمهارات المهنية التي تؤهلهم للإندماج بسوق العمل بثقة، مثل: مهارات بناء السيرة الذاتية، ومهارات التواصل الفعال خلال مقابلات العمل، وأخرى التكنولوجية أساسية، وغيرها من المهارات القيمة التي من شأنها أن تحقق منافسة عادلة عند التقدم للوظائف في مدينة القدس.

وعلى ذلك، يُسر محطة القدس أن تعلن عن برنامج جديد “القدس تبدع” ، والذي يهدف إلى المساعدة في تلبية الإحتياجات و المهارات التي يكافح الخريجون الجدد من أجلها للمساعدة في تعزيز انتقال أكثر نجاحاً إلى وظائفهم المستقبلية.

تعمل المحطة القدس، في القدس، على المساهمة في النظام البيئي الاقتصادي المتنامي الذي يهدف بدوره إلى تسهيل وصول القوى العاملة الفلسطينية الشابة إلى الفرص والخبرات المتنوعة. وذلك بالتركيز على إحداث تأثير اقتصادي واجتماعي مستدام من خلال الابتكار الفلسطيني مدعوماً بالخبرات والمواهب الريادية والتكنولوجيا الجديدة من جميع أنحاء العالم. حيث إنها تساعد في توجيه المبتكرين والرياديين والقوى العاملة المستقبلية في القدس بدءاً من مراحل التفكير وربطهم بالأسواق والأشخاص وفرص الاستثمار. كما أنهم يعملون على نطاق واسع لتوصيل المعرفة وتعليم مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين والوصول إلى الاستثمار وملء مجالات السوق لتعظيم إمكانات المبتكرين من خلال برنامج جديد يسمى Jerusalem Innovates – القدس تبدع.

ستستضيف المحطة القدس، برنامج “القدس تبدع” الممول من Enable، وذلك من خلال توفير فرصاً وتدريباً مكثفين للسكان الفلسطينيين في القدس. ستتاح لما لا يقل عن 230 شابًا تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18 – 29 عامًا الفرصة لزيادة مجموعات مهاراتهم فيما يتعلق بالمؤهلات والشروط المسبقة والمتطلبات المطلوبة في كافة أنحاء القدس لجعلهم مرشحين للقوى العاملة ويتمتعون بالقدرة على المنافسة والثقة والمرغوب فيها. سيركز البرنامج التدريبي على 5 فئات رئيسية: مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين ومهارات العمل والترميز/الرقمنة وتحليل مقترحات المشاريع والإرشاد. ثم تتكون كل فئة من فئات فرعية ستساعد جميعها في تطوير المتقدمين للوظائف الفلسطينيين المتمرسين في القدس.

سيتم تنفيذ برنامج “القدس تبدع” في مواقع متعددة في جميع أنحاء القدس وضواحيها مع التركيز في كل موقع على فرصة تطوير محددة تجعل البرنامج في متناول الفلسطينيين في جميع أنحاء القدس.

على الرغم من وجود صراع لهؤلاء الشباب بسبب نقص المهارات والاستعداد، إلا أن القدس لديها الناس والأفكار إمكانية الوصول إلى الموارد لإنشاء قوة عاملة مبتكرة. كل ما تحتاجه هو الدفع بالاتجاه الصحيح لمعرفة الموارد والفرص المتاحة لديهم وكيفية الاستفادة منها. برنامج مثل ” القدس تبدع” هو بالضبط ما تحتاجه القدس لمنح سكانها الفلسطينيين الأسبقية التي يستحقونها.
